Speak Your Mind

Is it acceptable, if in a relationship to have a friend of the opposite sex?
Can women have a male friend while in a relationship? And vice versa, can men? What are some terms in which it is acceptable? And terms in which it is not?

What Constitutes a Black President??

Scattered across the news industry, people are asking 'Is America ready for a Black President?'

My question is 'What constitutes a Black President and what makes him/her different from a President?'

So, in your opinion, what would and would not you expect from a Black President? Based on that response, is America ready?

Cell Phone Ban --

Recently, several states have put into effect what is called a cell phone ban. There are variations of this ban throughout the country but basically if you talk on your cell phone anytime while driving a police have the right to pull you over, give you a ticket and/or charge you a fine. Some states makes texting and driving illegal and some makes holding a cell phone to or around your ear while driving illegal. However, some states do allow hands-free devices. Which is reasonable considering how the judicial system would not be able to stop that anyways.

Some ask, if this ban will actually be followed. In most states, the fine for using your cell phone while driving is $100 and most auto insurance companies doesn't even give a penalty for receiving a ticket for that driving misconduct. To some families, $100 is pocket change and if no changes will be made to a person's insurance policy then no real harm done.

My question is 'is it really that serious'? Authorities say that cell phone use is one of the leading causes of car accidents. Where do random neglect fall in that range? Accidents are caused when people try to eat and drive. Accidents are caused when people try to better their hygiene and drive. Accidents are caused when people pay attention to everything else but the road and drive.

What's next? Will there be a ban on everything else but breathing and driving? Will police set up check stations to make sure that nothing else is in the car but humans?

So what do you think? Should there be a ban on cell phones during vehicle operation? And will cutting off cell phone usage really solve the problem of wreckless drivers? Have you been a victim of the cell phone ban? How do you feel about this matter?

Men vs Women [Part 2]

The Breadwinner
Who should make more in a relationship -- the Man or the Woman??

In today's society and in the wake of the independent woman era, more and more women are holding their own. Women are becoming CEOs and are leading companies. They are becoming lawyers, engineers, doctors and all of the above. They are no longer considered just a man's wife. Women are rising up in society, hence their increasing paychecks.

Since early in time, the man have been the head of the household. The man said who, what, when, where, and how. That was considered appropriate in those times because the man also made the bulk of the money. But now since women are rising in the ranks, what is considered appropriate now?

Alot of women ask for 50/50 in a relationship. No matter who makes more or who brings in the most money, all decisions and bills should be handled 50/50. Some women feels that if they make more then they should also make most of the decisions. Some feel that it doesn't matter what they make; even if the woman makes more the man should handle all financies responsibilites.

How do you feel about the matter? In today's society, is 50/50 the new standard?
To the men: How would you feel if your wife made more money than you?
To the women: How would you feel if you made more money than your husband?

Legal Drinking Age -- 18??

Several university's presidents in Indiana are petitioning to lower the legal drinking age from 21 to 18. Their reasons: They feel that if the legal age was lowered then that would eliminate binge drinking.

Those presidents and also some of the students that attend those universities says that most students enjoy drinking illegally because they feel as if they are getting away with it. Some even said that if the drinking age was lowered then that will decrease the thrill thus decrease binging and alcohol consumption as a whole.

True, some students drink because it is illegal and they feel as if they are getting away with something that they are not allowed to do, but, in my opinion, I don't think that that will decrease the amount of accidents related to drinking. There are some students that doesn't drink because it is illegal. Once the drinking age is lowered, those who normally doesn't drink will and those who drink illegally will continue.

There are reasons behind the current legal age.
[1] Alcohol lowers awareness.
[2] Alcohol promotes irresponsible activity.
[3] Alcohol disrupts logical thinking.

It is presumed that adults 21 years or older are more responsible and mature than adults 18 years old. Those who are 21 are better equipped emotionally and mentally to handle the effects of alcohol. They are considered responsible enough to handle the responsibilities that goes along with drinking.

I don't agree with those presidents that want to lower the legal drinking age. Although they feel that if they take the stipulations off of drinking that students will start to drink responsibly; I don't agree. Because alcohol will be available to 18 years more readily, I feel that they will consume more. They have not yet learned all of the lessons of life [although 21 year olds have not learned them all either; they have learned more] so even if they could legally drink they may not be aware of all the hazards behind drinking.

I feel that other methods can be looked at to eliminate binge drinking. Alcohol awareness programs can be considered or even adding an extra class in the curriculum.

Even with all the hazards of alcohol, should the legal age be lowered? Or should the legal age remain the same and other binging prevention methods be considered? What other methods/options can be considered to decrease the number of alcohol related accidents and binge drinking?
